Welcome to LUXURY AND ADVENTURE TRAVEL ADVISORS LLC
I have always been a Geography and Map Fanatic. I own a very large and well-utilized National Geographic Atlas in which I have recorded many notes and personal trips and routed out my journeys by ships, planes, trains, and cycling. I refer to it frequently in putting together my clients' trips and itineraries, as well as my own.
Going back to the time when I was a little girl, I have either lived just a few yards from the ocean or relatively close to it. I liked watching ships and wanted to know what life was like on the other side of the ocean. I was fascinated that my Grandmother came to the US on a ship as a teenage girl together with her sister from Ireland. Before my grandparents met in the US, my Grandfather from Ireland worked as a cowboy and copper miner in Montana at the turn of the 20th Century. They had many National Geographic issues at their home which I loved looking at. These impression, plus taking my first cruise, all eventually led me to the cruise and travel industry.
My travel industry career started many years ago working onboard Italian and Norwegian cruise lines as a Purser. When I worked on Italian ships, I was one of just six Americans out of a crew of 300. I also worked as a Purser on the world's largest cruise ship, the S/S Norway, at the time. I have worked together with officers and crew members from many countries around the world and this was a great set of educational and cultural experiences. I have handled guests' international passports from all over the globe, as well as put together the ship's immigration and customs manifests for authorities in many ports. I have been fortunate enough to meet, interact and work with travelers and other crew members from every continent except Antarctica.
Working shoreside, I have been employed in sales positions for Exploration Cruise Line, Sitmar Cruises, Princess Cruises, Seabourn, and Holland America Line for a combined total of many years. I have worked for global tour operators and the world's two largest travel agency chains - American Express and Carlson Wagonlit Travel, now known as Travel Leaders. At American Express, I worked as a Travel Advisor in the Platinum and Centurion Travel Division and booked high-end card members to some of the world's top jetsetter destinations and most luxurious hotel properties. For three weeks after 9/11, I had clients stranded all over the world due to all the canceled flights. There were numerous obstacles and challenges of getting people home from some remote places around the world when no planes were flying. Perhaps my biggest logistical challenge at that time was getting clients out of Ulan Batar, Mongolia and back to the United States!
I have traveled to approximately 70+ countries, some multiple times. My particular favorites are France, Norway, the Principality of Monaco, Ireland, Greece, Thailand, Australia, New Zealand and Chile. With the exception of Chile, I have visited each of these beautiful destinations anywhere from three to eight times. I have sailed across the South Pacific from French Polynesia to Australia and across the Tasman Sea from Australia to New Zealand. I am both a South Pacific Destination Specialist as well as an Aussie Specialist. I have visited Alaska, including inside the Arctic Circle, at least seven times. I have ridden a mule down to the bottom of the Grand Canyon and stayed overnight at the Bright Angel Lodge. I have cycled from Chang Mai to Chang Rai in Thailand, traveled through Vietnam and China each for 10 days, and visited a number of other Asian countries for a total of five trips to that continent.
France is such a terrific country when it comes to the terrain, history, and culture that I can not get enough of it and have lost count on my number of trips there. I have traveled through parts of this spectacular country by plane, river cruise (Avignon to Lyon), train, and car to such regions as the Rhone-Alpes, Haute Savoire (French Alpes), Alsace and Bordeaux. I have cycled in both the Loire Valley and throughout Provence and even made it to the very challenging top of Les Baux!
